Treatments of organic objects to extract ferrous compounds from waterlogged archaeological wood are well documented. For several years, numerous laboratories have been seeking determine suitable conservation treatments for such objects. chemical treatments, complexing agents as EDTA and DTPA, along with acids citric oxalic acids, were selected. In addition, oxidants reducing tested pre-treatments improve extraction rates. fact, chemicals produce a selective reaction on compounds, which may or be inhibited by complexation dissolution reactions. Their action depends the type compound extracted those present inside wood. The objective this study was make comparative assessment various identified complement evaluation their efficiency impact matter adding criteria visual aspect (using spectrocolorimeter) physicochemical actions means infrared spectroscopy micromorphological observations. effectiveness confirmed, that acid, despite some questions arising concerning presence fibers in treatment solution, even after rinsing. On other hand, rate has very acidic pH, unsurprisingly lower, but its anatomical results raised possibility using it over short period time view observed surface. Pre-treatments improved rates, except case EDTA, independently had high rate. It did not appear cause any significant degradation matter. This provides tool assist conservators selecting is line state decay wood, characteristics extracted, objectives.
